Fascial Stretch Therapy is a neuromyofascial manual therapy method which focuses on the connective tissue system rather than isolated muscle treatment. FST therapists assess active, passive, and resisted range of motion in functional positions and movements. FST is initiated with a passive and active assessment of mobility followed by manual treatment in the involved regions within the connective tissue system. Therapy is initiated at the deepest level specifically the joint capsule and progresses through all layers of fascia leading to the superficial layer.

Osteopathy

Dr. Nick Bergen was born and raised in Thorold, Ontario located within the Niagara Region. Although not professionally, he has been involved in various sports including soccer, hockey, volleyball, badminton, golf, and basketball. He has always had an interest in human anatomy and function, and graduated from Brock University in 2017 with a Bachelors of Kinesiology (Honours). In his last two years of university, he held a placement and volunteer position at Power Cord and SeniorFit, the former being a wheelchair accessible program specific to individuals with spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and amputations, and the latter a fitness program designed for men and women 55 years of age and older. It was at this time he gained interest in the management of musculoskeletal conditions and decided chiropractic was the career path that would enable him to make a difference in the lives of others.  Nick graduated Cum Laude from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 2022 and moved to Sudbury to start his career. He has a strong interest in treating the general population and strives to improve the health of his patients to the best of his abilities using patient education, manual and soft tissue therapy, exercise prescription, low-level-laser therapy, clinical acupuncture, and interprofessional collaboration. As a Certified Athletic Therapist, Kim is equipped with the in-depth knowledge, education and training in the areas of the human musculoskeletal system, exercise physiology, biomechanics, and basic emergency care. She treats a wide range of patients, from kids with concussions to seniors recovering from hip replacement surgery. Kim uses various manual therapies, modalities, exercise prescription, bracing and taping. Her goal is to provide her patients with exceptional care and education in the prevention, assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries.

Born and raised in Chapleau, ON, Kassie is a new Athletic Therapist  who has graduated from Sheridan College with an Honours Bachelor of Applied Health Sciences- Athletic Therapy. Kassie also graduated from Laurentian University in 2018 with a degree in Physical and Health Education. While completing her Laurentian degree, Kassie had the opportunity to do an internship at Active Therapy Plus and instantly fell in love with the clinic.  Kassie has experience working at the University of Guelph with their varsity rugby and basketball teams, earning an OUA championship gold medal. Kassie also has clinical experience working at the Sheridan College Athletic Therapy clinic and has covered many different sports at all age levels. Her main goal is to use her knowledge in manual therapy, exercise prescription, therapeutic modalities, and taping/bracing to help you get back to what you love and achieve your goals!  Outside of work, Kassie loves to watch hockey (Go Habs Go!), spend time outside and bake! After nearly 6 years of Personal Training, Mike brings experience in movement assessment, functional movement development, and injury prevention. As a competitive powerlifter, he has not only studied, but applied the fundamentals of assessment, movement, and strength on himself.

Mike is also a Fascial Stretch Specialist. Having taken his Level 3 certification at the Stretch to Win Institute in Chandler, Arizona, his knowledge and experience with Fascial Stretch Therapy is of the highest class. He also learned the Sport Specific modalities of Fascial Stretch Therapy which helps athletes perform better going into a game, recover and down regulate faster after a game, and keep athletes moving safely within the requirements of their sport.

My name is Sebastien Marin, I am a Fascial Stretch Therapist (FST) at Active Therapy Plus. ​ I was born in Timmins, Ontario, but shortly after my family relocated to Barrie, Ontario where I was raised as a competitive athlete in soccer, badminton, ball hockey, as well as coaching each. After attending all French schools in my childhood, I decided to continue my education at Laurentian University. Cindy Serresse is bilingual, with degrees from both the University of Ottawa (Master of Science in Physiotherapy, MScPT) and Laurentian University (Bachelor of Physical and Health Education with a specialization in Health Promotion, B.E.P.S.).

Cindy takes pride in helping people coping with disabilities, illnesses and injuries through education, exercise prescription, manual therapy and modalities. Her experience stems from completing placements in various settings including, but not limited to ortho, neuro and cardio rehabilitation. She is able to confidently assess and treat musculoskeletal conditions. Cindy has a passion for learning and is looking forward to expanding her knowledge and skills by furthering her education through courses in order to improve client care. Seeing both physical and mental improvement, improved quality of life and overall function bring her great reward.

Outside of work, Cindy enjoys exploring and learning about different cultures through travel. Physical activity is also an important staple in Cindy’s life. To stay active, she enjoys going to the gym and being a contributing member on a volleyball, basketball and soccer team.
